The Mariner's Museum in South Bay provided many of the artifacts Mia needed to depict the Newfoundland within his elements… the friendly giant who has kept watch over many a maritime fisherman. No stranger to the nets and lobster traps of the docks, the Newfoundland finds comfort among the discarded fishing nets. On the floor is a 1988 Canada Post "Dogs of Canada" stamp (designed by Mia Lane) as well as another stamp depicting the Newfoundland dog, but issued in 1895 by Newfoundland long before this province joined the rest of Canada. Mia has again hidden a map of her island community of Prince Edward County in this painting, a map of the island of Newfoundland, a carved heart with her sweethearts initials…. And just for fun….. a flea ship sailing to Newfoundland!
